Vlogging isn't just about finding our voice and learning how to tell the story of our day.  When we vlog, we also learn how to make a film.  Filmmaking takes incredible skill and patience.  We use WeVideo to put our vlogs together.  In the photo below, you can see that kids are working with multiple tracks to layer in their words, videos and music.  Seeing the time and energy they put into their vlogs makes them even more magical and impressive!

Seeing & Celebrating The Depths of Who We Are @Resvt @alessiacara #ScarsToYourBeautiful #Writing #ReflectingThroughArt

In reader's workshop, we have started our unit on social issues.  We are reading texts that open our minds and help us to reflect on the issues our society faces today.  Recently, we focused on love and acceptance by watching and discussing Alessia Cara's music video for her song, "Scars To Your Beautiful".  Students reflected on what parts of themselves they struggle with, that may actually be their greatest strengths.  We then wrote paragraphs focused on our reflections.
Some students shared their writing and thinking with the class.  We then celebrated our awesome unique selves through art.  Students created self portraits that focused on things they struggle with and yet value about themselves.  As they drew, they continued to reflect on how our struggles make us stronger and more empathetic people.  We thought about how our struggles can help us give more love out to the world.

And Then It Was Time To Make Our Books! @resvt #write #Nonfiction #Bookmaking #Art

After putting incredible care into our nonfiction writing, it was finally time to make our books.  Students chose their book structure and got to work!  The creativity in our room was contagious!!!  Kids made images pop, they made paper, they cut doors, they made books within books and even boxes to hold their beloved books!  We are so excited to celebrate our hard work by sharing our books with each other and by having a publishing party tomorrow!  I can't wait to show you their awesome books at our conferences!
