Today we discussed that math IS NOT about memorization and speed, it's about perseverance and believing in ourselves!  Please watch this video that we looked at today, and discuss it with your child.  it will help you understand why our focus in math today is less about memorizing algorithms and more about understanding, seeing patterns, and finding multiple ways to approach a given problem.  In math, and in everything, we celebrate when we make mistakes because it means we're learning!

Talk with your children and remind them that they can do ANYTHING they set their minds to!  ❤

Taking In Some Beautiful Words & Sunshine!

For Fabulously Fun Friday we got to enjoy reading outside as we also went on a hunt for DELICIOUS WORDS!  It was so fun!!! Such a wonderful way to end the week!

Our Thoughtful Poems Fill Our Minds, Our Hearts & Our Classroom!

After reading many poems, learning about choices writer's make to strengthen their writing, and writing poems ourselves, we embarked on a new writing journey!

We started by listening to music and illustrating what we heard!  We drew the colors, shapes, and feelings we felt & heard in the music.  Sometimes we even closed our eyes as we drew.

Then we described each other's art by using deliciously descriptive words!

We then used the amazing words that friends had given us, our art & the music to write our poems! 

Finally, WE PUBLISHED ALL OUR POEMS BY...

...sharing our poems with one another, and...

...by putting them into precious books, and...

...by filling our wall with our inspiring, poetic words!

We are a community of amazing writers!!!

If You Believe It Then Anything Can Happen!!!

As a class, we listened to Jason Mraz'z song "Have it All" and then did a close read of his lyrics.  We felt like a big idea in this song was, "If you believe it then anything can happen"!  We then reflected on all of the things WE CAN do if we choose to believe in ourselves.  We then created  messages to hang on the wall to remind us to have a growth mind set and never give up!

We signed our names to show that we believe in these statements and we believe in ourselves!

We have filled our room with positive affirmations to remind ourselves to persevere through challenges, while also building a kind and caring environment!
