Taking A Stand Against Stereotypes!

In our study of social issues, we discovered that stereotypes are often at the heart of a lot of problems in our society.  Students covered a box with hurtful stereotypes.  They also illustrated and wrote words to describe who they are on the outside.  They then opened the art to write who they really are, who they are on the inside.
We discussed how people can quickly judge us based on what we look like, rather than taking time to get to know us.  We realized how hurtful stereotypes can be, and how it's important to get to know people rather than make assumptions.

Students then created positive statements to cover up the box of stereotypes, illustrating how love is stronger than hate.  We learned that we have the power to judge others based on the content of their character, rather than making unfair assumptions.
